The Arizona Diamondbacks have signed right-handed pitcher Ryne Nelson to a one-year, $764,300 contract. The deal includes a $764,300 guaranteed salary and a $0 signing bonus. Nelson was selected by the Diamondbacks from the Reno Aces of the Pacific Coast League on September 5, 2022.
Nelson, 24, was a first-round pick by the Oakland Athletics in the 2019 MLB draft. He made his MLB debut with the Athletics in 2021 and appeared in 10 games, including two starts. He finished the season with a 6.14 ERA and 1.58 WHIP in 29 innings pitched.
The Diamondbacks are hoping that Nelson can be a part of their young starting rotation. He has shown good stuff in his brief time in the majors, and he could be a valuable asset to the team if he can continue to develop.
