Legendary NBA Legend Jerry West Passes
A true icon of the game, Jerry West passes away at 86.
A member of the NBA's 50th and 75th anniversary teams, West was a 12-time All-NBA guard and a key member of the Los Angeles Lakers' championship teams in the 1970s.
West was known for his incredible skill and athleticism on the court, as well as his leadership and determination. He was a fierce competitor and a true winner, and his legacy will continue to inspire generations of basketball players.
West was born in Chelyan, West Virginia, in 1938. He played college basketball at West Virginia University, where he was a two-time All-American. He was drafted by the Lakers in 1960, and he played for the team for 14 seasons.
During his time with the Lakers, West helped the team win six NBA championships. He was also named the NBA Finals Most Valuable Player in 1969.
After retiring from playing, West became a coach and executive. He coached the Lakers for three seasons, and he was the general manager of the team for 16 seasons. Under West's leadership, the Lakers won six more NBA championships.
West was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1980. He was also named one of the NBA's 50 Greatest Players in 1996.
